Introduction

Habib Alam is a professional sculptor and an art educator working since 1990. He completed his basic school education from Hyderabad, Sindh and later did his Bachelors of Arts (B.A) from University of Sindh, Jamshoro. After that he moved to Punjab for further education and pursued his Masters in Fine Arts and M.Phil studies in Sculpture (studio practice) at University of the Punjab at College of Art & Design. Soon afterwards, he started his doctoral studies and is currently a PHD scholar at University of the Punjab Lahore.


In 1996, during Master’s Education, he got a national exhibition award on Sculpture by the Punjab Artists Association. In 2002, he got an international award on Sculpture from Turkey, organized by the Women Solidarity Association. This sculpture was selected for a permanent display at Izmir Fine Arts Museum, Turkey. He appeared in different events and participated on the international level for many associations, including countries like Japan, France and America.


In 1998 he initiated the sculpture studios at University of the Punjab. At that time it offered courses of very limited credit hours. After a Journey of 24 years, as the chairman of the Department of sculpture, he is responsible for programs ranging from BA in sculpture to M Phil level studies


He had the honour of being the focal person for the renovation of the Old campus building of College of Art and Design, University of the Punjab, which is more than a century old building designed by Bhai Ram Singh during the British colonial era.
